On Saturday, 31 December 2022, a public OHS lecture was held with the theme of sharing session with practitioners. This sharing session was held online using Google Meet and was attended by 80 semester 5 students from industrial engineering study programs who were taking OHS courses. The speaker on this occasion was Mrs. R.A Intan Dwi Saraswati, S.ST who is the safety officer of PT. Pembangunan Perumahan, Tbk. (PT PP), she has become a safety officer at PT. Pembangunan Perumahan, TBK (PT PP) for 5 years. Projects she has handled include the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) development project, he was also the safety officer in the Social Security Tower project owned by Badan Penyelenggaraan Jaminan Sosial (BPJS) Ketenagakerjaan in the Kuningan area, Jakarta.
On this occasion she delivered material about work at height in the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) development project. In her presentation, she explained how to work at height in a safe and secure manner, including the procedures that must be followed, the documents that must be completed, and also the safety equipment that must be available in the work area. In addition, Mrs. Intan also explained how to apply the OHS culture in the project based on PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action). According to her, the application of OHS culture is not only carried out, but must be in accordance with the applicable OHS legal basis, so that the application is consistent and there are no deviations. According to her presentation, the costs incurred to implement OHS indeed are not small, but if an accident occurs, the losses paid by the company are often far greater than the costs required for implementing OHS.
After the presentation from the speaker, it was followed by a question and answer session. In 2 question and answer sessions, there were 8 questions asked by students. In closing, Mrs. Intan said that the theory learned in college is very important as a provision in the world of work, especially in her work as a safety officer. She also provides advice on how to have a career as a safety officer or OHS officer within the company. Mrs. Intan gave a message that the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) / Health & Safety Environment (HSE) department is not an executor but a team of directors and planners in implementing the OHS culture based on applicable laws.
It is hoped that with this activity students will gain additional knowledge about how to practice OHS in the world of work so that later when they go directly to the world of work they will be able to adapt well.
